Wavves is so hot right now, no need to expand, right? Fun, dirty music in the vain of all that fuzzy rock parents don’t like. What’s A+ about this release though, is that both tracks are cautionary songs about hidden evils. The first one explaining how fun in the sun can ruin your life, and the second about how marijuana will faze you enough to make you forget who and where you are. Kudos to Mr. Wavves for making fun of himself/riding with the devil.

5/5  Sure to come back to haunt you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is officially “post whatever the fuck I want” day, so here comes some Leftöver Crack. A perfect post-script for a justifiably rowdy G20 summit, this goes out to all our friends in London who did such a smashing job at RBS and created a joyous carnival in the heart of the financial district.

I’ve been sitting on this one for awhile, but it’s relatively new stuff (came out late last year). These guys are from the UK (not South Central). Years of listening to electronic (particularly dance) music had jaded my robot ears…I was growing tired of the scene…I was still in love with the electro sound but nothing new or interesting was being done with it, and then there was that 80’s revival thing going on (which I still love even though it can be kind of derivative) and not much else. All the sounds kind of melded into one (but not in a Voltron way). But this album…IT CHANGES EVERYTHING. These guys are an electronic duo AND a five-piece band. Their shows are live - no lame DJ sets - they got live drums and guitars and vocals and live effect manipulation. The sound is the love child of electro and punk if it were raised in a rough neighborhood so it’s as tough as nails. And the guys have a real great punk-DIY-ethos…their effects are handmade. They are the defibrillators for the hard electronic dance scene. They are the map that shows the way for the lost DJs and producers of the world. They are the light for the masses of musicians huddled over their laptops in the dark. OK METAPHOR OVERLOAD here’s the album (plus some bonus remixes!):

PS in their band photos they’re a bunch of BAMFs with those hoodies…like hip zombies or something. Wanna be a part of their gang // <3

YES this leaked a few days ago and while it’s not The Body, The Blood, The Machine, their last album, it doesn’t have to be, and I’m glad that it’s not. This band’s lineup constantly changes (I think only Kathy and Hutch are the original members, and correspondingly their sound changes, though the aesthetic/motive/drive behind it seems constant. I think Hutch’s lyrics (and voice) are really excellent, and he is able to crystallize a lot of the frustrations that living as a part of our vapid generation entails. It’s poppier than the driving, punk-rock last album, and it doesn’t have such stellar pulsing tracks like Here’s Your Future or Pillar of Salt, but sometimes it’s OK to mellow out (I’ve been learning), and it definitely hasn’t lost its simple, anti-profound profundity, both with lyrics and melodies. Also, it’s catchy as hell and upbeat too, so you can get energized for the revolution! (I agree with others in thinking the title is meant to be sarcastic).
