I always think I have all of my slow, cosmic disco music when lo and behold, I am missing another essential new album by a pioneer in the style. This is that album. Chuggy, stardust-sprinkled stoner disco (as I am now referring to this stuff), this will bring you down nice and easy and have you continuing to dance, even if you’re just swaying in bed. I highly recommend, if the cover doesn’t speak for the wonderfulness that lies inside…and beyond.

This leaked a few days ago and I was SO ECSTATIC that it did that I didn’t even listen to it until right now, as I’m sharing it with you. It is the sophomore effort of unstoppable nu space disco wunderKINGS Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas. Although I haven’t listened all the way through yet, it seems to have a slightly more kraut-rock/yacht-rock beachy flavor to it where their debut was more traditionally space-disco influenced (think a dash of Studio in place of Daniele Baldelli). That being said, it is still an all-over epic cosmic disco album, and L&PT continue to push the boundaries of this exciting and (re)newly popular genre with their measured additions of rock instrumentation alongside lush cosmic synth loops. This album will make your year. Have at it.

This is a brand new album from venerable Italo cosmic disco master/founder Daniele Baldelli. If you liked his historic Cosmic, The Original, then there is no reason to not try this - it’s his first album of fully new material in a looooong while, and I have a hope that it will pave the way for a space disco revolution on the dancefloors over the next few years. Snap it up and dance it out!

As I said somewhere previously, this is the LP from duo Sorcerer and Hatchback, both incredible sparkly balearic cosmic disco masters from LA. That + the cover art is about all that needs to be said - the fact that these two came together at all is enough, the album itself is all I could have asked for. so chillllll….like disco melting on a stick in the summer sun.

Another Ghostly disco artist, Daniel Wang - originally from California, then Taiwan, New York and now doing the Berlin thing, making disco sunrise beauty from the clubfloor. This is really smooth cosmic house disco, perfect for a Saturday night. This is a re-release of an album he did called Idealism, I figure it’s updated a bit for the recent cosmic disco revival that’s been hitting big. Snap it up

OK, now I know I have said that every compilation I just posted is essential and all you need, but to be honest, THIS is the best out of all of them because it isn’t solely dance, but balearic cosmic disco, and it was also the first compilation in this style that I listened to, and it is from Eskimo Recordings, home of Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, Daniele Baldelli, Low Motion Disco, Aeroplane, etc…, and it is seamless. Seriously, you can listen to the first track thru the last and just lose yourself in the transitions, that’s how good it is. The best part is from the second track, 80’s Boy, thru the fifth track, The Killer Storm, where there is NO FAULT in the music or in the world. But the rest are flawless compositions…I wish I could find more albums by the artists featured here, but many don’t have full lengths or even EPs out yet. Rumor has it that Eskimo has/will release a Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol. 2 and 3; if you have/know of where to acquire either, please EMAIL ME or drop it in the comments, i NEED to know (I secretly really want to work for Eskimo, Belgium sounds like a cool place). The whole compilation is mixed, obviously, but in a really simple and dissolvey way where each track really shines.

Enjoy, there’s no way you won’t. Get ready to dance in the stardust dreams of a cosmic glitter alien as ze relaxes on the beach sipping coconut milk.

Ok so this is pretty self-explanatory cuz i referenced it in a previous post, so I’ll just copy and paste a description of the release from my new fav (as of 5 mins ago) music magazine, Exclaim.ca:

When Lo Recordings released Milky Disco back in 2007, the comp easily served as a benchmark for the emerging cosmic disco scene, collecting tracks from the likes of Studio, Quiet Village and Sally Shapiro producer/svengali Johan Agebjörn. Now, just a few years later, the UK label will give the collection a much-deserved sequel, which promises to be a looser, more open-minded affair that, as Lo puts it, is all about “beats, textures, melodies and vibrations,” as well as some very heady “exploratory space dance music.”

Titled Milky Disco 2: Let’s Go Freak Out, the double-disc/digital download package is set for release in the UK on May 18 and features a mix of exclusive tracks and “new underground classics,” ranging from ’80s West coast vibes to Italo disco, soul, industrial, ambient and avant-garde.

On the comp, the Italians Do It Better crew are well-represented and tracks are included from both Nite Jewel and Glass Candy, whose song “The Chameleon” gets a remix treatment courtesy of Johan Agebjörn. California beach-bum duo Windsurf and their solo projects, Hatchback and Sorcerer, make several appearances. And DFA engineer Eric “Babytalk” Broucek takes on “Don’t Just Stand There” by Black Dice offshoot Soft Circle, while the previously unreleased track “Raining Patterns” comes courtesy of Montreal’s increasingly promising CFCF, who also last week released a killer seven-inch on Acephale that’s well worth checking out. Also on Milky Disco 2 are contributions from Black Mustang, Black Devil Disco Club, Ghost Note and Soft Rocks, among others.

release is 2 disc and at 320 kbps, get it while it’s hot!

Essential compilation of balearic disco from Fred Deakin, a dj house master. This is a massive two disc collection with tracks from pretty much every up and comer on the scene, so there’s no reason to not have it. The one thing I like about this balearic/cosmic disco scene is that all the compilations are awesome - you can listen to each song again and again and still think it’s fresh.

Perhaps the only cosmic balearic creamy disco compilation, no, just the only compilation you will ever need. Right here. It’s full of hits by Studio, Quiet Village, Daniel Wang, The Emperor Machine, Lindstrøm (under a pseudonym), and more. This is ecstasy on the dancefloor. There’s a second volume on the way (but I have it already, and will post it soon), but this one stays much more focused on the style/culture of this type of disco whereas the new one expands a bit beyond into Valerie territory. Also, doesn’t the cover look so fucking cool? I want that shit plastered all over my room.

I should get some sleep - I think this might do the trick. Sweet, creamy dreams. Honeymilk wonders.

Glorious. Absolutely glorious. This is incredibly perfect balearic italo slo disco from one half of the equally exquisite Windsurf (whose other partner in crime is genius Hatchback). You wouldn’t think that something this discotacular could come from LA but it in fact does. First three songs will make you feel just like the titles, and you won’t even have to leave your chair (though you’ll want to fly).

This is the major opus from the Godfather of Cosmic Disco, Daniele Baldelli, also one of the first ever Italian DJs who helped create the Italo Disco sound. It is essential and defines the slow, “chuggy” disco sound from late 70s Italy. Once also called Afro Disco for the genre’s use of afrobeat percussion sounds, Baldelli in particular was known for his ability to lay Fela Kuti on top of Tangerine Dream and have everyone moving on the dancefloor like there’s no tomorrow. This is thick. Get it now.

This is a new album from one of the godfathers of disco and its spacey cosmic style. Originally known as Black Devil, Bernard Fevre released a series of disco records back in 1978, where he typefied deep electronic disco. With the resurgence of the cosmic disco sound in the last few years, spearheaded by Lindstrøm, Daniel Wang, and others, Black Devil recreated himself as Black Devil Disco Club (the name of his first album) and released this, Eight Oh Eight, an excellent collection of deep spacey disco tracks with cool vocals and beats that will make you dance all night long. More the length of an EP, and well worth it.
